West Palm Beach Police Rescue Man Hanging From Broadway Bridge During Mental Health Crisis
West Palm Beach, FL (July 29, 2026) – Officers with the West Palm Beach Police Department rescued a man who was hanging from the side of the Broadway Bridge during an apparent mental health crisis in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 18.
According to the West Palm Beach Police Department, officers initially responded to the area near 59th Street following reports of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were unable to locate one of the individuals involved in the reported crash. During their search, they discovered a man hanging from the side of the Broadway Bridge, which connects West Palm Beach and Riviera Beach.
Body camera footage released by the department shows officers calmly communicating with the man as they worked to gain his trust. Police said officers reassured him throughout the encounter and even offered him water while attempting to bring him to safety.
Moments later, officers rescued the man and several other responding officers assisted in pulling him safely back over the side of the bridge. The coordinated rescue prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.
Authorities said the man was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. His identity has not been released, and officials have not disclosed whether he was transported to a medical facility for evaluation.
Traffic in the area was temporarily affected while emergency responders secured the scene and completed the rescue operation. No additional injuries were reported.
