Four Killed in Crash with Tractor Trailer on I-10 in Walton County
Walton County, FL (Tuesday, February 10, 2026) – Two children were killed in a crash involving an SUV and multiple tractor-trailers on Interstate 10 in Walton County Sunday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:50 p.m. on I-10 east near mile marker 86.
Authorities said a 34-year-old man from Bonifay was driving an SUV with two young passengers — a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy — when the vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer traveling ahead.
Investigators said the SUV overturned multiple times in the median following the initial impact.
Officials added that a second tractor-trailer then rear-ended the first truck, contributing to the multi-vehicle crash.
The two children were pronounced dead as a result of the collision. The condition of the driver has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
5 Steps to Take After Being Involved in a Crash in Florida
The first steps after a crash in Florida include seeking medical attention, documenting the scene, reporting the accident, keeping records, and reviewing insurance options. These actions can help protect your health and create important documentation connected to the incident.
Medical attention should be the top priority after any crash. Even in serious or fatal incidents involving others, anyone exposed to the scene or involved should be evaluated for possible injuries or shock-related conditions.
Medical records created during treatment can serve as important documentation related to any injuries or exposure from the crash.
Documenting the scene can also be helpful when possible. Photos of vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and surrounding areas may provide useful context later. Witness information and official reports can also be important for insurance or legal purposes.
Reporting the crash and keeping organized records are also key steps. Florida Highway Patrol reports, insurance communications, and any related documentation can help establish a clear record of what occurred.
Legal questions may arise following a serious or fatal crash. A car accident lawyer can review official reports and insurance policies to help explain possible options and next steps depending on the circumstances.
