Gainesville, FL – Wrong-Way Crash on SR-24 Kills Jacksonville Man, Injures Three

Gainesville, FL (April 12, 2026) – A 30-year-old man from Jacksonville was killed in a wrong-way crash Saturday night in Alachua County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11:45 p.m. on State Road 24 near NE 53rd Terrace.

Investigators say the man was driving a sedan eastbound in the westbound lanes when he collided head-on with a pickup truck traveling in the correct direction.

The impact caused the pickup truck to overturn and the sedan to catch fire.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup truck was driven by a 21-year-old man from Middleburg, who had two passengers: a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman. All three sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
