Truck Driver Killed After Septic Tank Truck Overturns and Bursts Into Flames on Florida Turnpike Near Bird Road

Southwest Miami-Dade, FL (July 16, 2026) – A truck driver was killed Thursday morning after a septic tank truck overturned and caught fire on the Florida Turnpike near Bird Road in Southwest Miami-Dade.

According to authorities, the driver became trapped inside the burning vehicle following the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews responded to the incident and worked to manage the vehicle fire and secure the area.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Officials have not released additional details regarding what caused the septic tank truck to overturn or identified the driver.

The incident comes as authorities continue to investigate another fatal vehicle crash in South Florida. In Belle Glade, three people were found dead Tuesday morning after an overturned pickup truck was discovered submerged in a roadside canal.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 7:20 a.m. on July 14 to Gator Boulevard after a 911 caller reported seeing a vehicle in the canal. The caller did not witness the truck entering the water, and investigators have not determined how long the vehicle had been submerged.

When firefighters arrived, they found an overturned pickup truck in a narrow canal with only the vehicle’s wheels visible above the water. Dive teams searched the truck and surrounding area before paramedics pronounced three occupants dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not been released. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding that crash.
